This is The Sleeping Gypsy by the artist Henri Rousseau. I thought that this painting was very beautiful and it spoke to me. There are many small details in this painting. For example if you look closely at the moon it seems to be smiling.
From that I infer that this lady is very special and will or already has done many good things. I also think that Henri Rousseau made the lion very content and peaceful towards the girl for a specific reason. He is saying that the creatures are pleased with her being there and want her to continue what she is doing. This girl seems to be more than what humans think considering that she is slipping outside but that she is praised and loved when it comes to the earth its self.
It also seems that she is on the run or is trying hard to get somewhere. I think this because she is sleeping outside on only a blanket and in a very unpopulated area. With her she only has an instrument and a vase like object. Considering that those are the only things she brought with her she must not have been planning for this journey.
I really enjoyed this painting and am eager to know the true story. Do you feel that the person in the painting has been misinterpreted?
